It was a boring Sunday afternoon. Many people throughout the world were waiting for the release of the album "ARTPOP", which would be released the next day. On this Sunday, the editors of True Music Review decided to give their fans an inside scoop of "ARTPOP", right before it was released. After an hour of roaming YouTube and listening to all of the songs on the upcoming album, I have created a Track-By-Track review of "ARTPOP". At the bottom of this article, I have listed my three favorite songs on this album.
Track 1: Aura (Machete Kills)
I think that it is pretty safe to say that this is the strangest song on ARTPOP - and possibly one of the strangest songs of all time. The interesting disco beats, lyrics, and lyric video make Aura an unique song. Personally, I liked Aura a lot, despite is being a very strange and slightly offensive song. In Aura, Lady Gaga frequently makes fun of Muslims in lyrics such as these:
"She wear burqa for fashion"
"My veil is protection for the gorgeousness of my face"
Track 2: Venus
The second track on "ARTPOP", Venus, is all about sex. For those who do not know, Venus is the Roman goddess of love, and in this case sex. Even though Venus had somewhat cheesy lyrics, it is very catchy.
Track 3: G.U.Y. (Girl Under You)
This was probably my least favorite track on ARTPOP, because it is highly inappropiate and not very catchy. G.U.Y. was the only disappointing track on ARTPOP.
Track 4: Sexxx Dreams
Sexxx Dreams is a somewhat strange song, and somewhat catchy. It is kind of like a step down from "Aura", but it is still a good song. I also think that the beat is very unique and catchy.
Track 5: Jewels & Drugs
I enjoyed this song, because it is unique from the other songs on ARTPOP. This is because in Jewels & Drugs, Lady Gaga features three rappers: T.I., Too Short, and Twista. This song gave me a breather and prepared me for the next songs on the album.
Track 6: MANiCURE
This song has rock influences in it and is once again unique. I enjoyed listening to MANiCURE, because it was catchy, and Lady Gaga's voice sounded really interesting in a rock song. In addition, you have to admit, the name is pretty cool.
Track 7: Do What U Want
Even though I have already heard this song before, I was once again impressed by this amazing duet of Lady Gaga and R. Kelly. Both of their voices are amazing in this song, and I think that these two spectacular artists should make another song, because Do What U Want was just phenomenal.
Track 8: ARTPOP
ARTPOP (the name of the album) was an OK song, but didn't really live up to my expectations. I did think it was a decent song, but I expected more of it, considering it is the name of the album. Lady Gaga should have put a little more effort into the lyrics, because they were very cheesy.
Track 9: Swine
This was one of the catchier songs on the album, and I thought that the DJs in this song did a terrific job. I could tell that this song was well thought out, and a lot of effort was put into it. The only thing I didn't like was when Lady Gaga started squealing like a pig; I found that very unattractive.
Track 10: Donatella
My thoughts about this song are almost exactly the same as Swine (the previous song), except I found Donatella more catchy. In addition, it didn't have those obnoxious pig squeals.
Track 11: Fashion!
I enjoyed this song, because it was a little calmer then the two previous tracks. This gave me a breather and allowed me to fully enjoy the final four songs.
Track 12: Mary Jane Holland
This song started off very good. The beat, lyrics, and everything else were perfect. However, the song gradually got on my nerves and at the end of it, I was ready to hit it with a chair.
Track 13: Dope
As you probably know already, I think that Dope is a perfect song. It was the only ballad on the album, and really was nice after hearing all of those party hits. To read my review on Dope, click this link: http://truemusicreviews.weebly.com/1/post/2013/11/lady-gaga-dope-review.html .
Track 14: Gypsy
I think that Gypsy is an OK song overall. I personally believe that Lady Gaga is trying to sing to high in it, and I don't find it very catchy. I have read a lot of good reviews about Gypsy, but I personally just say it is overrated.
Track 15: Applause
Even though this was the first song on ARTPOP to be released to the public, Lady Gaga decided to conclude her album with this song. Even though it is overplayed on the radio, I do still enjoy Applause very much, and I think that it is a great song to conclude an album.
My Top 3 Songs
You may have already determined what the best three songs on ARTPOP are by reading all of my reviews, but here are my three personal favorite songs on ARTPOP:
3: Aura (Machete Kills)
As I mentioned above, "Aura" is really catchy. I also really enjoyed the unique beat and lyrics.
As I mentioned above, it was very obvious to me that "Donatella" had a lot of effort put into it. I also really enjoyed the beat.
Here is the moment that you have all been waiting for...the best song on "ARTPOP" is...
As I mentioned above and in my review of "Dope", this is just a perfect song. It is obvious that Lady Gaga uses her real voice in this song, and I am not the only one who thinks this about her. Just read the YouTube comments on her official "Dope" video:
Well that was my two cents about Lady Gaga's new album "ARTPOP". When it is released tommorow, I will definitely buy "Dope" and possibly the other two songs in my Top 3 "ARTPOP" songs.
