This is one album that has been recieving a lot of praise, so I was looking forward to looking forward to it. Did it meet my expectations? It most certainly did not. "Pure Heroine" EXCEEDED my high expectations. This review consists of mini-review for each track, and the five best songs on the album. Let's begin.
Track #1: Tennis Court
Wow! What a great way to start the album! "Tennis Court" had a very interesting beat, and this song is pretty catchy.
Track #2: 400 Lux
"400 Lux" is very unique, but it is close to perfection. From the catchy hook, to horn noises, this song is simply fantastic.
Track #3: Royals
"Royals" is a song that never gets old, no matter how overplayed it is. This song won Lorde two Grammies and shows off her talent.
Track #4: Ribs
I read in a lot of places that "Ribs" is there favorite Lorde song. Unfortunately, I didn't crave it as much as other people did. I still liked it, but I did not love it nearly as much as her other songs.
Track #5: Buzzcut Season
"Buzzcut Season" is definitely one of the most underrated songs on "Pure Heroine". Even though it is slower than most of the other songs on the album, it is still very beautiful and catchy.
Track #6: Team
Lorde's second single may not be as good as "Royals", but it still excellent. The beat is heavy, and I am always catching myself singing "Team".
Track #7: Glory and Gore
Dang...this was a very good song. The chorus could be better, but the rest of it was stunning.
Track #8: Still Sane
My thoughts about this are similar to mine about "Ribs"; it was good, but it wasn't great.
Track #9: White Teeth teens
"White Teeth Teens" was certainly not what I expected. However, it is still a very good song, and is very unique. It is even more unique than "Royals" (in my opinion)>
Track #10: A World Alone
This song has a very good meaning, but it my least favorite on this album. In my opinion, Lorde should have closed this album with a more powerful song such as "Glory and Gore".
Here are my Top 5 songs on "Pure Heroine":
#5: White Teeth Teens
"White Teeth Teens" is the most unique song on "Pure Heroine", and is almost too ambitious in many ways. However, it works. That is why it is my fifth favorite song on the album.
Lorde's most popular song will always have a special place in my heart. However, there are songs better than it on "Pure Heroine".
#3: Glory and Gore
"Glory and Gore" is a beautiful song, that would've taken top spot if it weren't for the OK chorus. It is still an excellent song, though!
#2: Buzzcut Season
"Buzzcut Season" is a terrific song, and does not get enough credit. It is a lot better than "Ribs" and even "Royals" for that matter.
#1: 400 Lux
I have no clue why I like this song so much. I just do. The horn sounds are very cool, and the beat is very interesting. This song is most likely going to become a single, and may even become more popular than "Team".
What will be Lorde's next single?
I think that "Tennis Court" will be the next song to reach the radio. It is a lot better than most songs today, and I am looking for it. It also likely that "400 Lux", and "Ribs" will become singles.
